PISLM SHOWCASES HOW INTERNATIONAL FUNDING TRANSLATES TO REDUCING LAND DEGRADATION AND IMPROVING LIVELIHOODS WITHIN GRENADA DURING GEF NATIONAL DIALOGUE

July 4, 2025

GEORGE’S GRENADA, JULY 4TH, 2025- The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) was pleased to participate in the very first Global Environment Facility (GEF) National Dialogue in Grenada. The National dialogue held from July 1st to 3rd, 2025, sought to strengthen Grenada’s capacity to programme and manage GEF resources, while simultaneously raising awareness about the GEF family of environmental funds.  PISLM, a proud beneficiary of the Global Environment Facility through its cycles, was pleased to participate in critical dialogues on aligning resources with national priorities, fostering private sector engagement, including opportunities for blended finance, and enhancing stakeholder participation.

PISLM, established as a regional Inter-Government Organisation (IGO), was represented at the meeting by Project Manager for the CSIDS SOILCARE Project (Phase 1)- Mr. Trevor Thompson and SOILCARE Project Assistant Ms. Kennisha Canning. The national dialogue precedes the recent signing of the Headquarter Agreement with the Government of Grenada for the PISLM, which has been implementing the SOILCARE Project in Grenada and the Integrated Landscape Management Project in Carriacou, through GEF funding.

“PISLM was pleased to participate in the dialogue because our mandate requires us to utilize the GEF star allocations to support meeting the LDN targets – we were pleased to report and show how their funding is making an impact within Grenada through our projects,” explained Thompson.

Noting the recent rehabilitation of 10 acres of degraded lands, within Les Avocat, a vital forest reserve in Grenada, Thompson also spoke of plans to commence work to reduce degradation in other areas in the Chambord, St. Patrick, one area identified as a land degradation hotspot in Grenada’s target setting programme and Limlair, and Dumfries in Carriacou.

“This was more than a conversation, as this important funding agency was able to see how international funding translates transformation of local environmental action and supports the lives and livelihoods of individuals within communities.”

PISLM believes that while land degradation and climate change are accelerating, the national dialogue and field visits provided an opportunity to leverage support for homegrown solutions and strategic programming.
