January 29, 2026

ST. GEORGE’S GRENADA, JANUARY 28, 2025- A five (5)-day regional workshop in Grenada will bring together Geographical Information System and land experts to strengthen their national reporting on land degradation.

The workshop titled, “Regional Technical Workshop on High-Resolution SDG 15.3.1 and PRAIS SO1 Reporting for Caribbean SIDS,” will be held in Grenada from February 2- 6, 2026, and is being organized by the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management.

A total of 26 participants, two experts from 13 Caribbean Small Island Developing States (CSIDS), will participate in the intensive, hands-on technical programme. Over the five days, participants will build capacity in:

  • High-resolution land cover analysis (SO11),
  • Land productivity dynamics (SO12),
  • Soil organic carbon estimation (SO13),
  • Integration of these indicators into SDG 15.3.1 assessments, and
  • Preparation of PRAIS-ready datasets, including tables and metadata.

A key outcome of the workshop will be the establishment of a Caribbean GIS Community of Practice focused on land degradation, LDN, and the UNCCD’s Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS) reporting.

This workshop is supported through financing from the Global Environment Facility (GEF), with the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) serving as the Implementing Agency and the Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) as the Executing Agency. The training is being delivered in collaboration with Apacheta and contributes to strengthening national capacities for reporting under the United Nations Convention to Combat Desertification (UNCCD) through the Performance Review and Assessment of Implementation System (PRAIS), the Convention’s official platform for monitoring progress toward Land Degradation Neutrality and SDG 15.3.1.
