St. George’s Grenada, December 16, 2025 – The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM), congratulates Jamaica’s Minister of Water, Environment, and Climate Change – Hon. Matthew Samuda and Senator the Hon. Joyelle Clarke, Minister of Sustainable Development, Environment, Climate Action, and Constituency Empowerment of St. Kitts and Nevis, on their election to serve the eighth United Nations Environment Assembly, the world’s top environmental decision-making body, scheduled for December 6-10, 2027, in Nairobi.
Samuda was elected by acclamation as President of the eighth session of UNEA, while Hon. Joyelle Clarke was endorsed and elected as a Vice President of UNEA-8, representing the Latin American and Caribbean Group (GRULAC) on the Bureau.
The election was held while the two Caribbean leaders attended the UNEA 7 from 8-12 December, 2025, at the United Nations Environment Programme’s headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya.
“This is a significant appointment for Caribbean SIDS, as it strengthens regional visibility and influence in shaping global environmental governance and decisions leading into UNEA-8,” expressed Dr. Ronen Francis – PISLM’s Executive Director.
Their election by acclamation was presided over by Abdullah Bin Ali Al-Amri, the outgoing president of the assembly. PISLM looks forward to working with the two ministers to strengthen Sustainable Land and Soil Management within Caribbean SIDS.
