PISLM LOOKS FORWARD TO THE CREATION OF NATIVE DATA SETS AND STRENGTHENED CAPACITY DEVELOPMENT WITH THE SIGNING OF AGREEMENT WITH APACHETA
RIYADH, SAUDI ARABIA, DEC 08,2024-The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM) and Apacheta Global have officially signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU), launching a groundbreaking partnership to advance sustainable land management, within Caribbean Small Island Developing States through the creation of native soil and land datasets and strengthening of capacity development efforts of regional and national agencies and institutions.
This collaboration, signed by PISLM Executive Director Calvin James and Apacheta Global CEO Cesar Garcia, focuses on addressing critical environmental challenges, enhancing climate resilience, and fostering responsible land stewardship for future generations.
“PISLM has been developing indigenous data sets for soils and in working with Apacheta, this will particularly help us to develop our land cover and land productivity datasets in a unique way; the top-down approach with a practical perspective.,” explained Executive Director Calvin James.
He added that the agreement will result in, “Increased training for technicians to develop the datasets for our own geographic planning unit that will evolve into a global player, sitting at the table with bigger organisations such as Geo LDN.”
CEO for Apacheta LLC Cesar Garcia, welcomes the collaboration. “This would be significant for Small Island Developing States (SIDS), helping them to tackle land degradation, biodiversity loss, and climate change through the best solutions that leverage available data and local knowledge.”
The signing of the agreement was following a Global Dialogue on SIDS Default Data Initiatives, held as part of the activities of the Small Island Developing States (SIDS), Pavilion, as part of the COP16 in Riyadh Saudi Arabia.
The Partnership Initiative for Sustainable Land Management (PISLM’s), an Inter-Governmental Organisation (IGO), looks forward to utilising expertise and Apacheta’s innovative solutions, to help in preserving natural resources, applying more sustainable land management systems, capacity building, restoring ecosystems, and building sustainable communities within the Caribbean Small Island Developing States (CSIDS).
